Accelerated Mentoring Program

AMP is a 6-week, 36-hr Intensive Mentoring course teaching you a  working skill set that advances your signing and interpreting ability. The price of this unique program is listed below under AMP Fees.

You will be experiencing the best hands on learning during exercises with Deaf assistants that will give you feedback on areas that need to be developed. All it takes is your commitment to your desire of being the best interpreter you can be. The AMP program will  inspire you to break through the barriers that bind you and AMP is a  Lot of Fun Too!

The Love 2 ASL Interpreter Educational Outreach is  an Accelerated  mentoring  Program, (AKA) also known as  "AMP."

The 6-week 36-hr courses include: Interpreting AMP, Legal AMP, Medical AMP and Mental Health.

All workshops and AMP courses have CEU's, unless otherwise posted. So Let's Get AMP'd

AMP is taught with a limited number of student interpreters, in a classroom style environment.  AMP is mobile and can come to you in almost any Southern California location.  If you have a group of 6-12 interpreters, contact us and we will come to you.

Some student feedback about on line courses is they do not provide you with the "up close and personal" communication needed to get the immediate feedback and  encouragement that you get fromAMP.

INTERPRETING AMP I, is a 6-class mentoring  course held 6-hours a day for 6 weeks for a total of 36-hrs, allowing students the necessary time to absorb, practice and assimilate AMP's very unique techniques that will advance their skills up one or more levels than they are currently maintaining. The classes will provide one-on-one mentoring, profile development, personal evaluations, interpreter role playing with people that are Deaf in skits they have created. Optional: There will be one or more Instructor led field trips to Deaf events. Students will be given a certificate of mentoring hours for all events, field trips, labs, and mentoring. Additionally, after you have completed the AMP course, you will become a member of the AMP  network of interpreters and receive continued mentoring via emails, and live interpreting work.

INTERPRETING AMP II, is a pay it forward, opportunity. It is a 35-hour, 12-WEEK, hands- on-mentoring experience, in an real live externship interpreting assignment.

After completing Love2ASL's Accelerated Mentoring Program you will be qualified to participate in hands-on externship, mentored interpreting. This is a unique opportunity that is limited to 3-4 mentees, for a 12-week duration. Each assignment will last for 2-hrs.

Week: 1,  will be interpreter orientation and guidelines a 5-hour class, on a Saturday or Sunday as collectively agreed on.

We will review the 10-week, course materials notebook, that you will be given at the 1st meeting. You will be making notes on the pages in your notebook about, vocabulary, techniques, and ASL concepts.  There will be no surprises because the notebook contains everything that we will need for the interpreting assignment.

The next 10-weeks, we will meet at 6:30pm on site and for the first half-hour, you will meet with Dr. Seshie and review the notes for that evenings assignment and during the second half,  you will observe  Dr. Seshie interpret for 15 min and the remainder of time we will be rotating among the 3-4-mentees. You will not be required to rotate in on the first assignment day, you may observe the first meeting, after that you will participate for at least 5-15 minutes.  You may rotate in and out as often as you need. Dr. Seshie will be there teaming with you and assisting you whenever you need.

Week: 12, we will meet and eat on me!

We will celebrate and debrief our past 12 weeks!!! 

Unlike other mentor programs who charge $50-$150.00 an hour.

This course is less than $8.50 an hour for 2.5-hours. The rate is only $20.00 a week for 12-weeks for a total of $240.00.

At end of the 12-week course, You will receive a Certificate of  Participation for 35-hours of Mentored Interpreting.

PREPAID SAVINGS:

$220.00 when paid in advance.

Or Half Prepaid and Weekly Payments:

$120.00 at Orientation and $20.00 a week for 6 weeks, for the same commitment.

AMP will continue your education by taking your ITP education and you to a whole other level of Interpreting.

AMP will provide Student Interpreters with the education and support necessary to develop the confidence and skills needed to become a Qualified Professional Interpreter in every situation. Our program will retrain your responses to any given distraction in every interpreting situation. When DISTRACTIONS hit AMP's Techniques  will be there to bring you back into focus.

In addition, AMP teaches you how to identify breakdowns and gaps in communication between you and the Deaf and hearing comsumer(s). And gives you the skills to pick up where you left off in a professional manner.

AMP will provide a one-to-one mentoring method, which will give you the support you need to identify your limitations and begin the foundation for imporving your level of signing and interpreting ability.

After completing your AMP Course you will become an honorary member of the AMP-Terps Networking Help-Line, a special contact for graduate students. 

Your Mentor/AMP instructor, Dr. Juti K. Seshie, will notify and accompany you to various Deaf events for an invaluable opportunity to meet and make friends with members of the Deaf Community.

Additionally, continued mentoring will be offered during actual interpreting assignments to AMP's graduate students

Medical AMP, is a 6-class mentoring course held for 6-hour a day for 6-weeks  allowing students the necessary time to absorb and assimilate AMP's Medical Terminology, How to appropriately work with doctors and their medical staff and the expectations and protocols of interpreting in the emergency room, pre and post surgery. In addition, other specialized medical interpreting will be taught regarding how to interpret during a therapy session, physical therapy and Mental health settings. The classes will provide one-on-one mentoring, personal evaluations, medical interpreter role playing with Deaf people. There will be one or more field trips to Deaf events and students will be given a certificate of mentoring hours for all events, labs, and mentoring. Additionally, continued mentoring will be offered during actual interpreting assignments to AMP's graduate students

Mental Health AMP is a 6-class mentoring course held for 6-hours a day for 6 weeks  allowing students the necessary time to absorb and assimilate AMP's Mental Health Terminology. This course specifically focused on mental health issues, what can be expected from hearing mental health facilitators and technicians, what can be expected from mental health clients, mental health issues, terminology, medications, interpreter boundaries and confidentiality issues and much more.
