 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

"The interpreter scene prior to 1964 was so vastly different from that which exists today that it is a strain on the imagination to contemplate it ... We did not work as interpreters, but rather volunteered our services as our schedules permitted. If we received any compensation it was freely given and happily accepted, but not expected." - Lou Fant, RID biographer

N.I.C. TESTING...

Preparing to Evaluate Program...P.E.P

N.I.C.  Performance & Written

SAMPLE:

PEP...Preparing To Evaluate Programs

You really have no idea what to expect until you walk in the room and sit down and just hope to do well. How when you are just walking into it cold, and why do that when you can...

Be Prepared to sit for the EIPA evaluation in a mock setting that will keep you calm and at your best.

Now you can save time and money by taking both programs in a 50-hr class course.

PEP is once a  week course preparing you for the...

1st part the interview and

2nd part the performance.

PEP

Preparing to Evaluate Program

IMPORTANT INFORMATION...

There is more to the Performance Evaluation than meets the eye... Learn from an Expert! With over 45 years of interpreting experience.

Learn everything you need to know systematically through techniques that have been specifically designed to help you learn, understand and be able to apply what you have learned in the appropriate situations during your evaluation.

The NIC exam consists of  Three parts. The Written is done at one time and the Interview and Performance are done at one time, separate from the written.

1) Written knowledge exam

2) a. Interview

     b. Performance

What you will need to know to pass the interview portion of NIC exam is based on the information provided on the RID.org website, it is suggested that you go to RID.org and throughly read through the information provided on their website regarding the NIC exams.

For the performance portion of the NIC exam, the format will be "hands-on"  and the focus will be the registers of interpreting in ASL, in the simultaneous, consecutive, and English transliteration modes.

You will also learn some techinques that strengthen your receptive and expressive skills, fingerspelling, mapping, use of space and classifiers, increase your processing time, prosity, and ASL concepts.

Your  current skills will be continually evaluated in a mock testing setting and I will gather enough information about your skills to create a personalized goal plan that, when practiced, will strengthen your current signing skills.

You will learn through a variety of systems, concepts, techniques, and memory building activities and you will be surprised how really easy it is.

You must commit to practicing in the skill areas that need to be strengthened as desinated from the instructor's observations of your skills, during your mock testings.

You will need to follow a goal plan that has been prepared by the Instructor and you,  in order to sufficiently prepare yourself to sit for the NIC exam.

And believe it or not, it can really be fun!!! You will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement during the orientation.

A Brainstorming Team  effort

is being made here by making flashcards to practice and Share their processing ideas.

The activities have been designed to help you develop the ability to logically and rationally determine the most appropriate answers to every situation, a very  important  part of preparing to take the evaluation

As they study together in a collaborative effort, they learn which techniques work best learning the Guidelines of Professional Conduct for Educational Interpreters. See how  fun and easy learning can be in a  systematic way.

Here interpreters begin  to recognize the importance of the relationship between  interpreter and  the student/consumer

providing a good grasp of how and when to apply the necessary guidelines to the appropriate  situation.

Anyone, ASL student,  ITP graduate, or freelance interpreter needing to test or

re-test, can easily learn this technique.

Those of you who In the past they have pain stakingly struggled by rote memorization, reading notes, books and flash cards, a 1000 times each before the test and still not passing. Now, all you have to do is trust the process.

In addition to learning the Code of Professional Conduct guidelines for all  Interpreters, we provide unique stratagies and roleplays for you to raise your current skills to a passing level.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember with any professional endeavor, it takes time to prepare yourself to be ready to pass your evaluation.
Let someone trained in the profession guide you along the path to reach your goals. Allow me to show you how to reach  your highest level and prepare you to take the EIPA Evaluation.
Bonus: We can test your Skills and Knowledge, and Strengthen any areas that need Improvement. We are a "Hands-On" learning and educational outreach center.
