 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

"The interpreter scene prior to 1964 was so vastly different from that which exists today that it is a strain on the imagination to contemplate it ... We did not work as interpreters, but rather volunteered our services as our schedules permitted. If we received any compensation it was freely given and happily accepted, but not expected." - Lou Fant, RID biographer

A:  CEU's are Continuing Education Units that are used to meet the Certification requirements of RID-NAD-NIC interpreter certifications. Associate members of RID may also apply and keep track of their CEU's on a transcript maintained by RID, however, they do not apply to any future certification.

Q:  CEU's, How do I apply for CEU's?

A:  Prior to attending the workshop or course...send an email to Love2asl@yahoo.com and request CEU's. You will need to provide your RID Membership number.

Q:   CMP, What is that?

A:  CMP means Certification Maintenance Program. There are RID, CMP sponsors who review the CEU application and approve workshops and courses that provide students with CEU's. The CMP then submits the final paperwork to RID to be reviewed and approved and after the workshop the CMP send the paperwork to RID where they add the CEU's to the certified interpreter's or associates transcript.

A:  It takes ten (10) hours for each CEU.

8 CEU's is 80 hours of RID/CMP Sponsored and approved workshops, conventions, courses and seminars.

Formula:

1 hour  =  .01 ceu.

10 hours  X  .01 = 1.0. Ceu's
